Frequently Asked Questions

Thanks for asking, and great to “meet” you, at least virtually! My name is Doug Rempel. I’m a semi-retired husband, pastor, accountant, and college administrator from Ontario, Canada. Call me crazy, but I love the process of researching and writing sermons! All of the sermons currently available at Resources for Pastors and all future ones made available for members are 100% researched and written by me. This is not an “eBay-type” site or a sermon aggregator from many preachers or online sources. You’ll notice a consistent style, look, and feel as all sermons have been developed from the same person. You can learn more about me here.
While there are plans for future development of additional pastoral leadership and ministry resources, the current focus is on providing tools for pastors’ preaching ministries. My goal is to be your “personal research assistant”, getting you as far down the weekly sermon preparation process as possible by providing outlines, full sermon transcripts (for you to edit and personalize), a few presentation (PowerPoint) slides, and related resources.

Specifically, there are two ways to access the resources on this site: a membership option, and an a-la-carte Archive Store. Those who sign up for a membership will have access to new sermons and other preaching material on a weekly basis. Members also receive a discount on sermons purchased through the Archive Store. Those who would rather make periodic purchases are invited to do so through the Archive Store – but the cost per sermon is lower for those who choose to become a member.

No problem! New members always have access to two sermon series – the most recent prior series as well as the current one. You can begin a series while “banking” each subsequent message until you need it. Don’t worry – you’ll never get stuck only having access to “Sermons 3 and 4” of a 4-part series based on when you become a member!

I’m glad you asked! First, some organizations offer sermon outlines (either very basic or somewhat annotated). In many cases, a sermon outline may get a pastor 10-20% of the way through the sermon development process. At Resources for Pastors, our goal is to quickly help you get to the 70-80% completion point. We accomplish this by first acting as your personal research assistant, wrestling with the text and reviewing an extensive library of commentary and Bible study resources. We then convey the results of that research through the provision of a full sample transcript of how Doug has preached or would preach this particular sermon. Whether you use the transcript as one more resource as you write your own sermon “from scratch”, or edit the transcript to add your own illustrations and personal “spin”, we want to help you preach a Christ-centered, expository sermon each week while leaving you more time for other urgent ministry activities.

Some other websites aggregate sermons from a number of preachers and make them available for a fee. The challenge can be that each sermon is a different length, with a completely different style and approach since many people are uploading their sermons. Our goal is to provide you with fresh, current expository sermons that are consistent in style and length (about 30-40 minutes) – you’ll know what to expect and what you’ll need to do each week to make the sermon your own.

We’ve also noticed that many available sermons don’t specifically call church attenders to action. An important distinctive about sermons from Resources for Pastors is that every message concludes with multiple suggestions for your church members to apply God’s Word to their lives that week.

If you become a member of Resources for Pastors, you may cancel at any time – no questions asked. You will continue to have access to the Members Area until the end of your current billing period. Click here to manage your membership.

We welcome all questions, feedback, and suggestions from our Resources for Pastors community! Here is a link to our Contact page.

While you will intuitively develop your own process, here are our suggestions if you want to work from the draft transcript that is provided for each sermon:

  1. Prayerfully read and study the Biblical text before reviewing the material from Resources for Pastors.
  2. Begin the process of editing the sermon draft by changing the language to more closely reflect your own personal speaking style.
  3. Add any personal illustrations that supplement or replace ones in the transcript.
  4. Review the full transcript for any theological issues that require minor editing to conform to your church’s distinctives or Statement of Faith.
  5. If your church’s practice is to use and reference one exclusive English Bible translation, edit any references to other translations.
  6. If you plan to use the presentation slides provided from Resources for Pastors, review them and make any edits required based on changes you made to the sermon.
  7. Prayerfully review, practice, and deliver your sermon!

Sermon transcripts, outlines, and other material are available for download in Microsoft Word format. You should be able to convert and/or open Word documents in Apple Pages or other word processing programs.

Sermon presentation slides are available in PowerPoint format. Many Church Presentation Software programs allow for slide decks from PowerPoint to be imported for integration into your Sunday presentation materials.

For either recurring memberships or purchases in the Archive Store, Resources for Pastors accepts all major credit cards. For our global customers, we are able to receive payments in multiple currencies for your convenience.

Digital accidents happen! As a member, if you delete a sermon (or lose it through a hard drive failure) that is still current on the Members Area, you can re-download it as many times as you need. If you lose an older sermon, reach out to us using the contact page and we’ll be happy to help you access your resources.

If you become a member, you will be able to access all resources located there through your login credentials. New preaching materials drop every week!

If you shop in the Archive Store, you will receive an e-mail with your download link. You may also access your resources directly from your Account page.

Why Resources for Pastors?

There are a couple main reasons. First, I’ve been a pastor – so I understand the unique demands and challenges of that calling. My heart’s desire is to give you back more time for other critical ministry responsibilities – and more family time as well! Second, I love the sermon research and writing process! I’d be honoured to be your “personal research assistant”, doing some initial study of the passage and theological resources, all the way up to a full draft transcript and outline. I’d then invite you to use these resources to transform my “first draft” into something uniquely yours that will provide the greatest impact for your church and God’s Kingdom.
